Murray started out following the traditional route of studying after school and getting a safe and secure job. After obtaining his BSc Electrical Engineering degree from Wits, Murray pursued a career in Construction Project Management. Murray always felt that there was a better way to make money and reach time and financial freedom.
He started of by investing in apartments at the age of 24 using the traditional methods of saving money and obtaining as high a bank financing as possible. He felt this was a slow method of investing and did not yield the desired returns that he was looking for. Having utilised several methods of property investing like buying from auction, fix & flipping, buy & hold, he soon realised that the traditional methods of investing were very slow.
Murray continued to learn and research better ways to reach his property goals and eventually started doing deals using instalment sales, seller finance and rent-to-buy. These proved to be far more profitable, and he was able to double his holdings in a short space of time. He decided to leave the corporate game when his kids were born and become a full-time property investor, business owner and entrepreneur. He now focuses exclusively on short term flips and sourcing deals for other investors.
This goes to show that you are able to make a success using any strategy in the property and what really makes success is persistence and taking action and very little to do with what strategy you use.
Murray is an avid reader of business and entrepreneurial books and with his engineering background, studies systems and how to improve efficiency of tasks. Murray believes that there is nothing new and everything can be learnt from those who have done it before and hence, he believes that reading books is the fastest way to success.
Daniel is a 20 years old Professional Property Investor, entrepreneur and business owner, as well as a full-time student. He is in his third year of Accounting at the University of Johannesburg.
Daniel’s driving force to achieve success stems from an early personal experience. Due to his father being retrenched, his parents found themselves, and their young family, homeless. Daniel’s father was a highly educated man, possessing a master’s degree in Mining Engineering, but this still could not secure him employments. This was the most traumatic experience of Daniel’s life but taught him a valuable lesson. The traditional “go to school and get a safe and secure job” was a fallacy and only you are responsible for your own life, not your employer.
He spent his later teen years shadowing and learning from leading experts in the property sector and at the age of 19, did his first property deal. This was a buy and flip deal where he used none of his own money and the deal was a huge success. This was an eye-opening experience and validation that property investing was the path that he was going to pursue.
He continued his path of learning and studying more creative ways to invest in property like back-to-back deals and seller finance.
Daniel is a firm believer that with the right amounts of guidance and knowledge anyone can invest and be massive success in property investing. No one is too old or too young to start.
Success lies beyond all your excuses.
